The History Museum of Los Gatos is located at the Forbes Mill Annex, a previous storage facility for wheat and flour built in 1880 by the Los Gatos Manufacturing Company. The annex was built for Forbes Mill, a flour mill built by James Alexander Forbes in 1855. The mill was the first building erected in what is now Los Gatos. The area around the mill was known as Forbestown until the name Los Gatos was formally established. The Mill was torn down in 1915 leaving only the Annex. The Mill was added the to California State Register of Historic Places in 1950. After several proposals to repurpose the Annex in the late 1970′s it finally became the home for the History Museum of Los Gatos in 1982.
